Bosch Security Systems, a leading manufacturer of high-quality security systems and components, has introduced the Building Integration System (BIS), the industry’s most economical and scalable integrated building and enterprise management system.  BIS is ideal for a wide range of applications including retail chains, banks, warehouses, university campuses, office buildings and correctional facilities.

Unlike older, less flexible hard-wired systems, Bosch’s Building Integration System seamlessly integrates physical and electronic security, access control, CCTV, fire systems, imaging, photo badging and building management systems.  By allowing all components to easily exchange data, they work together more efficiently and effectively than they would independently, improving their performance and value and improving overall protection.

Based on cross-platform open connectivity standards (OPC), an innovative, open design that blends security system technology with information technology, Bosch’s Building Integration System helps cut operating costs and increases operating efficiency. OPC technology eliminates the need for expensive custom interfaces and drivers and promotes interoperability among the widest available range of security and CCTV, building management and process control systems as well as different computing solutions and platforms. BIS uses OPC standard connectivity for most Bosch security system components as well as host level interoperability with many other systems such as BacNet™, LonWorks™, Modbus™, ProfiBus™, and X-10™.

BIS provides a unified point of control to manage one site or many sites that simplifies operation and reduces training costs as well as the number of trained operators needed. The HTML-based interface is customizable, user-friendly, easily accessible via Internet or intranet, and offers identical message handling for all connected systems.  The database is designed around the widely accepted Microsoft MSDE and SQL Server 2000 standards for database management, ensuring the upgrade path of the system.

The system fully supports AutoCAD™ graphic drawing display formats, including optional layered 3D and 2D site/floor plans, pan/zoom navigation and installed device control. Operating on MS-Windows™ based workstations and servers, Bosch’s Building Integration System is network-ready and scalable to fit any size business, from a single site to enterprise-class operations. With its modular design, the system can be extended at any time with additional security, access control, video and automation engines.

The challenge

Many Industrial sites and office buildings today require security and building management systems for their day-today operation such as fire and intrusion system, video surveillance and access control, IP infrastructure, etc. Malfunctions and downtimes of those systems cause additional costs and extra staff to properly and safely operate the facility. Such installations are equipped with 24/7 monitoring stations or reception desks that often contain different front-end workstations for each of these systems. Furthermore, many times, no real interaction between them is possible. In such complex installations, an alarm can cause stressful emergency situations. A fire alarm or intrusion attempt can cause operators to make mistakes or simply need more time to find the right button. Stress levels are higher and often the operator feels strained or unsure on how to proceed.

The solution

All those systems can be connected with a high-confidence level to a central BIS server equipped with a worldwide open interface standard. The customized or standard system configuration between the different subsystems can be set up. Specific instructions can be pre-programmed and corresponding site maps can be displayed on the operator screen in association with each alarm type to optimize decisions during such high-alert situations. Automatic and scheduled controls are also possible to allow operators to concentrate on the important things. In addition, individual operator authorizations provide a separation in access and control of the different systems to assure authorization only to specific individuals to see and manage different data available in the system.

Typical system functions

  • Fire detection with evacuation via public address and/or escape door management
  • Intrusion detection system with integrated video live images and alarm archives
  • Access to high-secure areas, e.g. computer can centre with entrance and exit reader, video verification and area balancing, video surveillance with storage/retrieval
  • Parking lot access with normal reader, barrier and traffic light control and video surveillance or video verification
  • Arming/disarming intrusion system via keypad reader
  • Video surveillance of back entrance, parking lot or other locations
  • Elevator control with individual floor authorizations for up to 16 floors
  • Perimeter fence control and monitoring
  • Technical alarms for HVAC, lighting, blinds, etc.

BIS Certification Programme

Within the framework of the certification programme, BIS Certified Partners benefit from strong commercial and technical support in all phases of a project - from preparing quotes to compete in a tender to after-sales support. The centrepiece of the programme is based on providing the partner with the necessary knowledge to be successful. In this perspective, Bosch offers modular trainings and exclusive technical information enabling BIS Certified Partners to build up and maintain the levels of expertise in the areas they need for their customer base. Upfront investments are not required, as the training and the certification take place only after the first project is won. Following the training and certification, exclusive technical support is available to certified engineers.

For system integrators, the BIS Certified Partner Programme opens up a vast potential for additional growth. First, as an open integration platform, BIS creates opportunities to sell the entire Bosch portfolio at the initial stage or as an addition to the system over time. Even more interesting, BIS installations typically require ongoing support with system upgrades and a maintenance contract with end-customers which generates recurring revenue.

Certification details:

·        Maximum of 100 partners will be appointed in the EMEA region

·        No more than 8 candidates per training session

·        Focused modular training programme

·        Accces to BIS Partner Network
